THE HOLLYWOOD RULES There's a great book on the market entitled The Hollywood Rules" written by an anonymous group of writers. It gives all new up-and-comers the best advice on what to avoid and what to demand when dealing with the players in Hollywood who are not always honest and eager to help you get to where you want to go. I would like to add some things to their list. First, I think it's important to always wear a business suit when attending meetings. Look for your niche in this business as well. Too many people are doing the same thing and looking like the next person. In other words, be original. Last but not least, deal with agents who represent talent on the small or little screen, so you can get results faster. Call SAG to get the representation of your favorite star and then try to hook up with them. These are the tips I give to all my friends who are thinking about acting. It can be a difficult road that offers all sorts of distractions -- drugs, easy sex, etc. Always have your plan written out and stick to it. Do something everyday to advance towards your ultimate goal even if it's just a simple phone call. Good luck. Daphne Kim McCorery, columnist LEAVE COMMENTARY RESPONSES IN THE GUESTBOOK! |
